What Can I Expect?
What Can I Expect?
Contrary to the popular and somewhat dated, if not erroneous stereotypes associated with psychotherapy, you will most definitely NOT be met by a bespeckled, balding older man asking you to make yourself comfortable on the leather couch and inviting you to talk about your childhood. Please as well try to believe that you do not have to be “psycho” or otherwise “crazy” to seek out some assistance from a therapist.

My approach to the therapeutic relationship is one that is based on respect, genuine and honest dialogue, and the overarching goal of doing my best to provide people with informed and accurate information, as well as the best possible treatment approach geared to each individual's needs.

The team of practitioners at Foster Family Chiropractic is well educated and firmly dedicated to understanding the imperative "mind and body" connection to achieving optimal personal health.
Treatment Approach
Therapists will often work from one main theoretical approach to therapy, but this does not mean that they are not experienced in or able to use a variety of techniques to assist their clients depending upon individual needs.

The main approach used in my practice is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an active and challenging treatment approach shown to be extremely effective in assisting people to overcome obstacles and long standing patterns in their lives that may tend to create negative mood, behavioral and physical difficulty. CBT is not an approach that is limited by age, gender or the cultural background of any individual.

CBT is based on the belief that thinking patterns developed out of experiences one has in their lives. We attach meaning to all experiences we have; be it with other people, events we witness or participate in, even relative to how we alone decide to view the world around us. This theory holds that while we have a likelihood of developing positive patterns of thinking, we can be prone to the negative and maladaptive as well. How we think is believed to be the primary means of enhancing health and conversely create poor mental & physical health states. Our assumptions and beliefs about our world and ourselves is extremely important, and research has shown that patterns of thinking, the language we use and how we personally interpret our experiences is of vast importance to leading a balanced and contented life.

CBT seeks to intervene with and help people break up patterns that have created mental health problems and impaired function.

CBT can be used with all ages of clients, in groups, family and marital therapy, and is an approach most often used by popular motivational speakers. CBT is one of the most widely researched, accepted and successful mental health treatment approaches available.

Therapy can be a very useful and active way to look for solutions, shift behaviors and thinking in order to enhance your overall health.
